How we work

Software projects rarely fail on the code. They fail on a vague definition of done, progress nobody can see, and a launch that meets real users too late. Our process exists to remove those three things.

Five stages

What happens, and what you get at each step

Week 0 · No charge

Understand the problem first

Forty-five minutes on the goal, the users, the constraints and what success would look like in numbers. We ask about the systems you already run, because that decides a lot of the plan.

You get: a written summary, an honest view of the right approach, and a referral if we aren't the right team.

Weeks 1 to 2 · Paid, fixed fee

Design and architecture

We map the users, flows and data, agree what done looks like, and test the riskiest technical part in a short spike. Designs are clickable before code is written.

You get: a technical design, clickable designs for the core flows, a milestone plan with a fixed price or capped range, and a working prototype of the hardest part.

Weeks 3 onward · Two-week sprints

Build in short, visible sprints

Design, build, test, demo, deploy, on a fixed rhythm. Automated tests run on every change, so you see working software move forward sprint by sprint.

You get: a shared channel, repository access from day one, a short sprint report and a Friday demo you can invite anyone to.

Launch week

Release without the drama

A rehearsed go-live with monitoring, alerts and a rollback plan in place. Where it makes sense we release to a slice of users first and widen it once the numbers look right.

You get: runbooks, architecture documentation, and a recorded walkthrough for whoever joins your team later.

Ongoing · Optional

Support, improve or hand over

Either we stay on for support, updates and the next set of features, or we hand the system to your team with a paired transition, not a zip file and good luck.

Working agreements

What we commit to, in writing

Your data stays yours

We write down what data we touch and where it lives before we build anything, and no client data is ever used to train AI models.

Your repository, your cloud

Code, designs and infrastructure live in your accounts from the first sprint. You are never locked in by access.

Named engineers

The people in the proposal are the people on the project. If someone has to change, we tell you before it happens and overlap them.

Progress is reported, not claimed

Demos, test results and budget burn are shared every sprint, and change requests are priced before they're built.

Questions

Before you email us

What does a project typically cost?

It depends on scope, but two useful anchors: a scoping engagement is a fixed fee of a week or two of team time, and a dedicated team is billed monthly per engineer. You get a fixed price or capped range per milestone before the build starts.

How long does a first release take?

Most first releases land in 8 to 16 weeks. A focused mobile app or internal tool sits at the shorter end, a multi-tenant platform or a migration at the longer end. The scoping phase gives you a dated plan.

Do you work with our existing developers?

Often, yes. We can embed engineers into your team, or own a workstream with a clear interface to yours. We'll recommend whichever wastes less of your time.

Can you take over an existing codebase?

Yes. We start with a short audit covering code quality, tests, security and infrastructure, then agree what to fix first. You get the audit in writing either way.

Do you build AI features?

Yes, when they fit. We build assistants, document processing and workflow automation, measured against real examples before they ship. Your data is never used to train models, and we'll tell you when a simpler approach would do.

Who owns the intellectual property?

You do, in full. It's in the contract, and everything lives in your repository from day one.

Which time zones do you cover?

We work remote-first with overlap hours agreed at the start. Most clients get at least four hours of live overlap with their own working day.
